GrowingGreat Gets Parents and Children Thinking about Water Conservation and Nutrition

December 16, 2014

The California Drought is on everyone’s mind, including GrowingGreat’s K-5th graders. In a new STEM-focused program, GrowingGreat will create parent / child activities for a series of family guides in English and Spanish that will be called A Drink of Water. The activities will be distributed nationally through the Resources section on the GrowingGreat website, and also shared with docents and teachers through their online education portal so that they can incorporate the new activities in their classroom programs. GrowingGreat will collaborate with agriculture, water conservation and education partners for this project. The first issue of A Drink of Water will launch in Dec 2014.

In 2015, GrowingGreat will pilot a new PreK-2 Nutrition Curriculum called Play with your Food (Jugar con la Comida) to inspire healthy eating habits and connect nutrition to hands-on science activities about what living things – both plants and people – need to grow.  Activities will link to their garden program, include the USDA MyPlate healthy eating plan, and feature a take-home family activity page both in Spanish and English.
